The Power of T: Collaboration with Information and Telecommunications Technologies for First Response

 

The HiT Intent

Created within the University of Houston's College of Engineering, HiT is now the Technology Testbed/Test and Evaluation Division of the Southwest Public Safety Technology Center for the National Institute of Justice.  This division is a consortium that provides support for collaborative research relative to total emergency situational awareness (prevention, detection and management).   This includes four key disciplines: first response, traffic mobility, clean air mitigation and homeland security.

Following are the planned outputs of the Initiative:

Improved Remote Medical (and Associated Ambulatory) Care and Capabilities

Traffic Mobility
Improved Mobility and Traffic Control (Vehicular, Air, Cargo Detection, etc.)

Improved Pollution, Detection, Modeling and Decision-Making Capabilities/Attributes

Homeland Security
Detection Systems (Drugs, Nuclear and Other Materials/Weapons)

Infrastructure Creation, Protection and Detection Systems (i.e., Intelligent Grout, etc.)

Research Resources
Network Lab (for Alpha Testing of Applications)
Living Lab (for Beta or Field-Testing of Applications)
